Axis Bank win Secretariat Cup Cricket Tournament

Axis Bank won the 12th Secretariat Cup Cricket Tournament, trouncing Odyssey Advance Telematics Systems (OATS) in the final by eight wickets at Kalinga Stadium here today. All-rounder Anshuman Das and middle-order batsman Debashis Sahoo jointly guided their team to victory, hitting an unbeaten half-century each.

Anshuman scalped three wickets for 23 runs and followed it with an unconquered 71 to be adjudged the man of the match. Debashis slammed unbeaten 80 to become the top scorer of the match.

OATS all-rounder Sudesh Acharya bagged the coveted prize as the man of the tournament, scoring over 500 runs, including an unbeaten 196 and scalping 15 wickets in eight matches. Champions Axis Bank received the top prize of Rs 10,000, while runners-up OATS took home Rs 7,000.

Additional Secretary of Panchayati Raj Department, Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee handed over the trophy, mementos and cash prizes at the closing function. Host Orissa Secretariat Cricket Association president Rabi Narayan Nanda and general secretary Tarun Chandra Paul were present on the occasion.

The 12th edition of the Secretariat Cup, which commenced last year on October 22, featured 32 teams and 76 matches.

Brief scores: OATS 167/10 in 29.3 overs (Subhrant Das 32, Bhimsen Panda 24; Biranchi Nayak 3/12, Anshuman Das 3/23, Saroj Routray 2/19) lost to Axis Bank 172/2 in 21.3 overs (Debashis Sahoo 80 n.o, Anshuman Das 71 n.o).
